Planning for Learning

a)

c)Both lesson plans show my ability to use the Alberta Program of Studies in planning, instructional and assessment processes. The general and specific outcomes where taken directly from the program of studies and were the main focus when lesson planning, teaching and assessing students understanding.

d) Although, in my fiirst year I have not taken any curriculum courses, my ability to lesson plan, and using the Alberta Program of Studies in that process, shows that I can gain pertinent information in subject areas, in order to teach lessons.

f)In each lesson, plan I have demonstrated the transision from curriculum outcomes to the activities involved in the educational process of achieving those objectives.

Facilitating Learning

e) In each lesson plan, modifications and extensions have been added and considered, for the remedial and accelerated learner. There is also a pace where multiple intelligences are considered throughout the lesson plan; I have tried to incorporate and consider as many as possible in each lesson. I have also been a part of a PD which had a main topic of Student Centered Learning. This session gave me insight into the process of individualing education and allowing students to guide their learning process however they see fit.

i) My EDTS 234 class was fortunate enough to enjoy a mini tribes and kagan seminar. This have given me even more instructional practices to add to my portfolio. There is a specific place in my lesson plans that illustrate my use of these kagan practices.

j)Although it may not be the typical type of technolgie used in a classroom, the Van de Graff Generator was a large part of my electricity and electrical technologie lesson plan. It was extremely helpful, like most technologie, in demonstrating thetopics in the lesson.

m)The Waste in our World lesson, perfectly illustrates how community can be tied into education. A large part of the lesson involved the students writing about how they widh to emprove their community and their world. The connections made from the class material to the real-life consequences, makes the lesson much more meaningful and profound.

Assessment

k)The electricity and electrical teachnologie lesson plan had a very simple assessment technique. Gaging student understanding by simply talking to students about the results of their experimentation, is an easy form of assessment. If the responses from students were wrong or they seemed unsure, I would simply reafirm the information that remained fuzzy to the class. From my own school experiences, tests and exit slips are the obvious types of assessment that come to my mind but simply talking to students is a great way to assess and assure understanding.

Classroom Environment

g)In both lesson I have implemented cooperative group work where work is shared equally. As well as kagan strategies, partener or class activities help satisfy and encourage the social aspects and needs of students. In the electricity and electrical technology lesson plan my hook involves physical activity, this is not only useful in boosting academic performance but in engaging students as well.

h)In the PD session , Dealing with Difficult People, the audience got an in-depth look at approved (by the ATA) way to handle human relations problems in a school setting. It was extremely helpful to lay out scenarios and explore possible situations in order to understand the propre route to resolution.

Proffesional Responsabilties

b) The PD session, Dealing with Difficult people went quite in depth about the workings of the Alberta Teacher's Association. I was able to see the inner workings of what it means to be a certified teacher in Alberta and the rules and procedures which follow along with that.

l) When I volunteered at the Teacher's Convention in Medicine Hat this year I got to talk to teachers that I knew, and teachers who I got to know. It was incredibly satisfying to talked to individuals who have been in a profesion in which I am just embarking and who share the same passion for education as I do. Sharing the teaching experience, ideas and knowledge with people who are just as involved as you whether that be other teachers, students, or parents, the act is incredibly important to overall success.

n) I would like to refer you to my tutorial journal entry in which i sope of wellness. Being highly involved in sports and hoping to bring that into my future career, I am very invested in the idea of wellness. Students, schools and teachers all needs plans in order to manage and excel in education. This can only enrich and improve the quality of our schools.

o) The few PD sessions which I have attended are just a start, I hope to continue attaining as much knowledge about new and exciting educational practises and theories. My learning goals on my home page of this portfolio is an example of some of the things which I hope to learn and show that I have goals which I want to achieve in my near future.

p) I would like to refer you to my philosophy of teaching. I have developed a clear, yet ever-evolving and expanding view of education. I know the aspects which I consider to be important and the more I learn the more I find am able to add to my vision.
